We educate differently
We believe in Whole Child education
We believe in educating the Whole Child and approach education that addresses every aspect of the child, including physical, behavioral, emotional, cognitive, social and spiritual.
Educating the whole child helps to increase the student’s engagement and desire to learn, thus giving the child an edge for future successes.
Our educational approach is inspired by various pedagogies, including Montessori, Waldorf, and Nature School methodologies.
Montessori Method
The Learning Studio embraces the “individual and independent” nature of Montessori education, for we witness our own students flourishing with such self-directed learning.
In Montessori education, each child is acknowledged as an individual and allowed the independence to choose what they wanted to learn. Montessori learning materials support sensorial experiences that stimulate children's minds, encourage exploration, and inspire independent learning.
We also bring Montessori materials into our classrooms as they support and excite our students’ natural curiosity.
Waldorf Education
There are no textbooks used in Waldorf schools. Waldorf education integrates art, beauty, reverent rituals, nature, and oral storytelling into the life of the school.
Waldorf education enlivens all aspects of the whole child and works with the gradual development of the child.
Teachers are free to create a curriculum in a way that serves their individual students, the class as a whole, and the school community.
We’ve adopted elements of the Waldorf curriculum, including:
Circle time
Handwork
Time in nature
Language Arts
Nature School Movement
The Nature School Movement emerged in Europe in the 1950s and finally found its way to California in the 1990s. Though there is no single curriculum used in Nature Schools, they all teach children outside in among the trees, grass, and birds. Here children connect with their surroundings and learn with all of their senses. Their senses are stimulated, and an awe and respect for Earth is developed.
Nature School education, and any time spent in nature, benefits children in many ways, including reduced stress, enhanced cognitive abilities, increased resilience through heightened sensory awareness, and increased empathy.
The Learning Studio’s location at The Wonder Farm enables us to offer Nature School benefits. Here students work, wonder and wander among plants, trees and the earth. Our Farm curriculum includes:
Gardening
Botany
Insects
